Support 6.5 miles of protected bike lanes & pedestrian improvements on Cameron/Dessau
Cameron/Dessau Rd between 51st Street and Parmer Lane is one of Austin’s most dangerous roadways. Between 2019 and 2023, there were almost 2,400 crashes, 12 deaths, and 77 serious injuries on this stretch. This crisis needs addressing now.
Thankfully, the City of Austin finally plans to take action with 6.5 miles of protected bike lanes, new pedestrian crossings, better street lighting, and other improvements. This is one of Austin’s boldest ever bicycle/pedestrian/safe streets projects.
However, this project could be even better. The bike lane protection should be stronger for this high speed road and there would still be too many vehicle lanes, likely leading to more deaths and serious injuries.
Speak up now and let’s finally fix Cameron/Dessau Road.
Possible feedback when taking the survey
I strongly support protected bike lanes & new/upgraded pedestrian crossings on Cameron/Dessau!
Ensure the bike lanes have solid barriers like concrete curbs or Jersey barriers.
Don’t widen automobile lanes, keep them to 10’.
Include wayfinding signage.
Allow no more than 2 vehicle lanes each way. 3 lanes in some areas will keep killing and injuring road users. Prioritize safety over car speed/throughput.
