Support the CityLeap plan: Road lane conversions on EVERY Austin arterial
To urgently address transportation and climate in Austin, we’ve just made our biggest proposal yet to City Council:
Convert one or more vehicle lanes on every City of Austin-owned arterial to either bus lanes & shared use paths, or protected bike lanes, within five years.
We’re calling this plan CityLeap and it needs YOUR support.
Austin’s arterial roadways - such as South 1st, Oltorf, Burnet, and Anderson Lane - aren’t working well for anyone right now. Our arterials are unpleasant; dangerous; polluting; and discourage walking, bicycling, and transit.
CityLeap would address this by converting one or more lanes on all Austin-owned arterials to transit or active transportation within five years. Imagine:
Super fast buses zipping across town
Miles of protected bike lanes and bicycle-pedestrian paths on Austin’s most direct routes
Shorter travel times for transit, walking, and bikes, with little/no difference in travel times for cars
A project that pays for itself through crash cost savings to society
