Safe Streets Austin Announces New Executive Director
AUSTIN, TEXAS - Safe Streets Austin, a local non-profit dedicated to improving the city’s streets, bikeways, and trails, is proud to announce Diego Martinez-Moncada as its new Executive Director.
Diego brings over 10 years of experience working in advocacy and transportation, having worked extensively in nonprofit management, program development, and policy. Previously, he was Executive Director of Bike Share of Austin, where he resurrected the bikeshare program by introducing e-bikes and eventually overseeing the acquisition by local transportation agency, CapMetro. Diego is an Austin native and graduate of the University of Texas with B.A. in Political Science. “As an Austinite, I am excited to have the opportunity to help improve the lives of the people around me,” said Diego.
“The City of Austin has been a leader in our state and nationwide in making streets safe for all users, but there’s a lot more work in the movement to end traffic deaths and give Austinites safe streets,” said Safe Streets Austin Board Chair Jay Blazek Crossley. “This is why I’m so excited to work with Diego to build on past work and empower the people of our region to join this movement for safe streets.”
In his new role, Diego will focus on expanding Safe Streets Austin’s programs, building partnerships, and furthering the organization’s mission of transforming Austin’s streets, bikeways, and trails into safe, vibrant, and equitable places for people of all ages and abilities to use together. Diego will also lead fundraising efforts, as well as marketing and community engagement initiatives.
“I am honored to join Safe Streets Austin as its first Executive Director,” said Diego. “I look forward to utilizing my past experience and working closely with the Board to build a resilient organization that can advocate for the safety of everyone on Austin’s streets. Together, we will continue to push Safe Streets Austin’s community first approach and build on the incredible work that has already been done.”
